Farstun wallpaper

Gysinge

Gysinge's wallpaper Farstun has a large stencil pattern. The pattern has been found in several farmhouses and recreated.

Stencil wallpapers were common in the early 1800s in Sweden. The wealthy had silk-imitating patterns, priests and the bourgeoisie had painters mimic fabric patterns with silk-like colors, but most had to settle for stencil-painted patterns with glue paint on rag paper. Stencil wallpapers were often combined with wainscoting, which gave the rooms calm and harmonious proportions.
